Tour Itinerary

Day prior: The day before your tour we would like you to meet us at our kayaking base at 1167 Helen Road in Ucluelet. We will fit you for your paddling equipment, check that you have everything you need, give you dry bags to put your clothes in and offer packing advice.

If you cannot make it to meet us the day before your tour, please be sure to let us know in advance so that we may make the necessary arrangements.

Day 1: We meet at 8:00 am at 1167 Helen Road in Ucluelet. Complimentary parking at Majestic Kayaking during your kayak trip. We travel together by boat to a sheltered beach in the Broken Group Islands, where we launch our kayaks for the trip. Here we unload our equipment and guide you through how to pack the kayaks. From the onset of our trip you will be well informed on how to use and care for the equipment. After an equipment orientation, there will be lessons to teach you the basic fundamentals of ocean kayaking as well as a safety talk before we set off to paddle the Broken Group Islands. We always travel as a group and stay close together, traveling at a moderate pace. Our arrival time at camp depends on the physical ability of the group and the weather conditions we experience. We will stop at a sandy beach for a gourmet picnic lunch and after a bit more exploring we will arrive at our camp. Your guides will help you locate an appropriate tenting spot and assist you in getting organized and settled. Sometimes we keep our camp in one location for the duration of the trip and do day trips from the site, other times we may choose to move the camp during the trip.

Day 2: After a good night’s sleep and hearty breakfast we head off for our first full day of paddling. Your guides will choose the exact route and itinerary, making adjustments according to weather conditions and to suit the needs of the group. We try to organize our trips to satisfy both active adventurers and those looking for a relaxing vacation. We hope you will agree that we have found the right balance. After a few hours of exploring we will stop for lunch and a short rest before continuing with a couple more hours of paddling in the afternoon. In the evening you will have some time to explore, read or relax while your guides prepare a delicious dinner. There will be an opportunity to gather around a campfire to share stories and get to know your paddling partners a little better. (Campfires are subject to seasonal regulations.)

Day 3: Following your final day of paddling, guests will travel by boat back to our base in Ucluelet. Before saying your final goodbyes and beginning your travels back home you will have the opportunity to share photos with your fellow group members and draw out your tour route on your very own laminated charts!

Environmental Stewardship

At Majestic Ocean Kayaking, we take our role as environmental stewards seriously. We keep to established tent sites and trails, compost our food waste, and dispose of all garbage responsibly. We follow Leave-No-Trace principles in the backcountry, storing food out of reach of wildlife, and minimizing campfire impacts. We respect all wildlife that we encounter; keeping in mind that sightings are precious to our guests, but always maintaining a respectful and safe distance.

We are proud to support the work of local conservation and naturalist groups such as the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, Tofino Shorebird Society, the Central West Coast Forest Society and the Wild Pacific Trail. We regularly get our hands dirty by organizing and participating in beach cleanups in the areas that we visit. We are also very proud of our role as educators. We enjoy sharing our knowledge of the natural and cultural histories of the areas we work in, while teaching our guests about minimum impact philosophies and practices that they can carry forward to use in their own lives and travels.

4 days of paddling through the Broken Group Islands with Majestic is a unique experience not to be missed. Our guide, Rodrigo, shared his passion for this adventure with great enthusiasm. He was always there to help, making sure everyone was comfortable and safe. He was cooking every meal for us using fresh ingredients from day 1 to day 4. Dressings, toppings, sauces, desserts are all homemade, what a treat! (other kayakers were so jealous) The Broken Group Island scenery is breathtaking. After discussing the itinerary for the day, Rodrigo was taking us to so many hidden places, talking about the culture, history, marine life, and wildlife... What a learning experience, and fun at the same time. Everything was well organised and I can feel this is the result of teamwork. I am looking forward to next summer to book another tour with Majestic. Many thanks for this special adventure on the water.
