We provide everything you need; transportation, lessons from certified guides, top of the line kayaking equipment and paddle clothing. Full day trips include gourmet picnic lunches with our famous kayaking cookies and homemade lemonade. Ucluelet Harbour – Group Tours

3 Hour Kayaking: $79 per person

Tour Overview

The sheltered waters of the Ucluelet harbour offer an ideal location for an introduction to sea kayaking. Our tours depart right from the beach at our Vancouver Island kayaking centre. We may paddle up to a beautiful hidden waterfall, visit the local fish hatchery, or explore the inner boat basin.

The harbour is full of wildlife; watch for black bears along the shoreline, rich intertidal life beneath your kayak and eagles circling overhead. Harbour seals pop their heads up to watch us paddle by and sea lions call from the fishing docks along the water’s edge. Historic old pre-wartime houses, big steel fishing boats and old wooden trollers tell the story of this quaint fishing village.

Ucluelet is one of the most accessible ports on the west coast of Vancouver Island where you can experience the geography, the rich sea life and wildlife, and have an excellent paddling opportunity.

Private 3 hour guided kayaking.  Observe black bears along the shoreline and eagles circling overhead. Seals pop their heads up and sea lions bark as we paddle by. Subject to availability.

Barkley Sound / Toquaht Bay

4.5 Hour Kayaking: $189 per person

Tour Overview

The Toquaht Bay/Secret Beach, Vancouver Island kayaking tour paddles through the clear blue waters and the many islands and islets of western Barkley Sound, giving you access to protected bays and quiet coves, against the spectacular backdrop of rugged snow capped mountains. Barkley Sound is abundant with wildlife, you may see seals and sea lions in the water or a black bear along the shoreline, spot some of the countless eagles and shorebirds, jumping salmon, or even a migrating gray whale.

Barkley Sound is tucked in away from the big ocean swell, it is a pocket cut into Vancouver Island’s west coast, with many little islands to explore. Barkley Sound is a very unique area because any experience level of kayaker can have a real ocean experience with a great day of paddling.

Meet at the Majestic Ocean Kayaking centre at 1167 Helen Road in Ucluelet. The tour starts with a 45 minute drive in our comfortable 15 passenger van with our kayaks, guide, and gourmet picnic lunch. We arrive at Toquaht Bay, the traditional territory of the Toquaht First Nation. On route to the launch site guests will have the opportunity to take in the scenery of the area with the possibility of wildlife sightings along the Maggie Lake forest road. The beach at Toquaht Bay/secret beach, is sheltered and provides wonderful views of the inner islands of Barkley Sound.

The guide prepares everyone for a day of adventure. Kayaks are set up for each person, seats and pedals adjusted. Everyone gets dressed and the boats are packed. Lessons are given and safety concerns and procedures are explained.

Your guide will lead the tour and is in charge of safety at all times. Guests having difficulty will receive extra assistance when required. We travel as a group and stay close together, if there is a slow paddler we must wait for them, strong paddlers must stay with the group.

After a couple of hours paddling in the morning, your guide will take you to one of the nearby sandy beaches to enjoy a delicious buffet style picnic lunch and a short rest. Your tour will then continue for another couple of hours before returning to the launch site at around 3:30pm; from there we will have you back in Ucluelet for an estimated arrival time of 5:00pm.

Barkley Sound / Outside Waters

4.5 Hour Kayaking: $169 per person

Tour Overview

Paddlers will enjoy this guided Vancouver Island kayaking journey to the islands outside of the Ucluelet harbour and into Barkley Sound. At the start of the tour the guide prepares everyone for a day of adventure. Kayaks are set up for each guest, seats and pedals are adjusted. Lessons are given and safety concerns and procedures are explained.

Departing from the beach at our Majestic Ocean Kayaking base in Ucluelet, we will first explore the sights in the Ucluelet harbour including a variety of wildlife that frequent this area. We will then paddle out into Barkley Sound and experience the open Pacific Ocean. Your guide will point out some spectacular views of the rocky shores, gigantic kelp beds, and perhaps an ancient first nations whaling beach or some incredible nearby rock formations. You might paddle the whole west coast of Barkley Sound up to Toquaht Bay. Sea lion colonies, black bears, seals, and whales may all be spotted by kayak on this day trip.

Your guide will lead the tour and is in charge of safety at all times. Guests having difficulty will receive extra assistance when required. We travel as a group and stay close together, if there is a slow paddler we must wait for them, strong paddlers must stay with the group.

After a couple of hours paddling in the morning, your guide will take you to one of the nearby sandy beaches to enjoy a delicious buffet style picnic lunch and a short rest. Your tour will continue for another couple of hours before returning to our kayaking beach for an estimated arrival time of 3:00pm.

Depending on the route chosen by your guide and how far you paddle, there is the option of returning by truck or by boat at the end of the day.

Broken Group Islands

4.5 Hour Kayaking: $329 per person

Tour Overview

Take a thrilling boat ride and watch for whales in Barkley Sound – all in one day!

The tour starts off with an exciting half hour ride by cruiser boat in the early morning with our kayaks, guide and gourmet picnic lunch. On route to the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve guests will have the opportunity to take in the spectacular scenery of rocky bluffs with wind whipped trees, sights of the open Pacific Ocean, a noisy sea lion colony, and a historic native whaling beach. We watch for gray and humpback whales as we travel across Barkley Sound. The whale spotting has been fantastic this season in our area, the whales are abundant and in close. Last year was not as good with the whale watching so we are very excited that we are seeing so many this year.

On one of the hundred islands in the park amongst the quiet coves and sheltered bays, our guide prepares everyone for a day of adventure. Kayaks are set up for each person, seats and pedals adjusted. Lessons are given and safety concerns and procedures are explained.

After a few hours in the morning we will stop on one of the nearby sandy beaches for a gourmet buffet style picnic lunch. As the day progresses, your guide will introduce you to some of the fascinating natural and cultural history of the Broken Group Islands, traditional home to the Tseshaht First Nation.

Your guide will lead the tour and is in charge of safety at all times. Guests having difficulty will receive extra assistance when required. We travel as a group and stay close together, if there is a slow paddler we must wait for them, strong paddlers must stay with the group.

You might see wildlife such as eagles, shore birds, sea lions, seals, mink, river otters, and rich and colourful intertidal life. We will weave in and out of the many islands and get in close to look at everything. We may choose to take a short hike into the old growth forest at one of our stops. Our cruiser boat will pick us up on the other side of the Broken Group Islands in the afternoon to have us back in Ucluelet with an estimated arrival time of 4:30 pm.
