Day prior: The evening before your tour we would like you to meet us at our kayaking base at 1167 Helen Road in Ucluelet. We will fit you for your paddling equipment, check that you have everything you need, give you dry bags to put your clothes in and offer packing advice. If you cannot make it to meet us,please be sure to call in the day before your departure to confirm your arrival and let us pass on any last minute information to you.
Day 1: We meet at 8:00 am at 1167 Helen Road in Ucluelet. Complimentary parking at Majestic Kayaking during your kayak trip. We travel together by boat to a sheltered beach in the Broken Group Islands, where we launch our kayaks for the trip. Here we unload our equipment and guide you through how to pack the kayaks. From the onset of our trip you will be well informed on how to use and care for the equipment. After an equipment orientation, there will be lessons to teach you the basic fundamentals of ocean kayaking as well as a safety talk before we set off to paddle the Broken Group Islands. We always travel as a group and stay close together, traveling at a moderate pace. Our arrival time at camp depends on the physical ability of the group and the weather conditions we experience. We will stop at a sandy beach for a gourmet picnic lunch and after a bit more exploring we will arrive at our camp. Your guides will help you locate an appropriate tenting spot and assist you in getting organized and settled. Sometimes we keep our camp in one location for the duration of the trip and do day trips from the site, other times we may choose to move the camp during the trip.
Day 2 and 3: After a good night's sleep and hearty breakfast we head off for our first full day of paddling. Your guides will choose the exact route and itinerary, making adjustments according to weather conditions and to suit the needs of the group. We try to organize our trips to satisfy both active adventurers and those looking for a relaxing vacation. We hope you will agree that we have found the right balance. After a few hours of exploring we will stop for lunch and a short rest before continuing with a couple more hours of paddling in the afternoon. In the evening you will have some time to read or relax while your guides prepare a delicious dinner. There will be an opportunity to gather around a campfire to share stories and get to know your paddling partners a little better.
Day 4: After taking down our camp and enjoying your last delicious breakfast, re-packing the kayaks, we begin the paddle to Secret Beach at Toquaht Bay, with lunch along the way, we plan to arrive around 3:00 pm. Our van and trailer will be there to shuttle you to Ucluelet and the Majestic Kayaking base.
Our arrival time is meant to allow time to travel to Nanaimo to board a ferry to mainland British Columbia, or continue on to other Vancouver Island destinations. Please be advised that there is the possibility that weather or other conditions could delay our return time, so plan accordingly.
