Ocean Kayaking
Broken Group Islands

This is a moderate grade trip. No kayak experience is necessary; participants must be comfortable in water and in good enough shape for 4 to 6 hours of daily kayaking, some easy hiking.

We welcome you to kayak with us and explore the Barkley Sound, Broken Group Islands of the Pacific Rim National Park. The Barkley Sound is a rich unspoiled area where you can enjoy the natural beauty of the islands, the forests and the sea. An unforgettable experience is to learn about the unique sea life while kayaking the network of channels and islets.

From the onset of our trip you will be well informed on how to use and care for the equipment. We teach the basic fundamentals of ocean kayaking and we travel as a group staying close together. Our equipment is top of the line quality. We try to organize our trips to satisfy both active adventurers and those looking for a relaxing vacation. We hope you'll agree we've found the right balance. Our itinerary is adjusted according to weather conditions and to suit the needs of the group.

The evening before your tour we would like you to meet us at 1167 Helen Road in Ucluelet. Come and meet your guides, we will give you dry bags to put your clothes in and offer packing advice.

Day one, we meet at 8:30 am at 1167 Helen Road in Ucluelet. We travel together to Toquart Bay, which is where we launch our kayaks for the trip to the Broken Group Islands (you can drive your own vehicle or catch a ride with us). Here we unload our equipment and guide you through packing the kayaks. After equipment orientation, lessons, and a safety talk, we begin paddling to the Broken Group Islands. Our arrival time in the Broken Group depends on the physical ability of the group and weather conditions.

Upon arrival, we will set up our camp. Sometimes we keep our camp in one location for the duration of the trip and do day-trips from the site, other times we may choose to move the camp during the trip.

On our catered trips, we provide buffet style meals similar to those listed below:

Breakfasts will be pancakes, fruit salad, granola and yogurt; fried potatoes and eggs;
Warm apple crisp made with oatmeal, and milk or cream. Camp stove perked coffee, a wide selection of teas, hot chocolate, or juice.

Lunch will be build your own bagel sandwiches; hearty soups; smokie hot dogs; pita pockets loaded with veggies; burritos, chips, crackers, salads.

Dinner on the first night will be marinated grilled salmon and two types of salad. The second night, stir-fried jumbo shrimp with lots of veggies and steamed rice. The third night, linguine with our famous Majestic Kayaking smoked salmon and cream cheese sauce.

Upon registering we will forward you a list of what to bring on the trip and a medical form. The medical form must be completed and returned to us upon registering. Each participant must sign a waiver of liability before we depart on the tour.

Thank you for your interest in Majestic Ocean Kayaking trips. We look forward to paddling with you.
