Our ocean kayaking tours allow guests to explore the rugged beauty of the west coast, and to share our passion for ocean kayaking, wildlife, great food and good company; all while having the adventure of a lifetime! Our trips are fun and educational, with a conscious regard for safety and for our environmental impact on the land and the water at all times. As stewards of these unique areas, we set an example by following national park policies as well as our own ethical policies to minimize our impact on the environment. In all aspects of our business, from our kayaking tours, kayak office, bed and breakfast, staff, food, landscaping, and our purchasing decisions, we are constantly striving to improve and make our practices more sustainable and environmentally sound. We welcome all feedback and suggestions.
Best known for our personalized service and attention to detail, we strive to act with consciousness and compassion in our dealings with our customers, employees and suppliers.
Savour the taste of local cuisine from our own kitchen. Kayakers must be fed well, so providing guests with plentiful, delicious and healthy food is an important part of our trips. Our customers tell us all the time that the food on the trip was better than what they eat at home and better quality and variety than most restaurants.
The food on our trips is nutritious and varied; we never have anyone going hungry because there was not enough for seconds or it did not taste good. Your guides will prepare a variety of tasty meals with recipes developed and tested by Tracy and prepared by our B&B staff in the Majestic Ocean Kayaking kitchen. Tracy has always enjoyed feeding people and is very conscientious about the quality of ingredients that we serve our guests. Having the food prepared and packaged in our clean kitchen ensures the health of the food and makes it easier for the guide to spend more time with the guests. Guests will not be left sitting around waiting long periods of time for meals to be served on the kayaking trip.
We use local and organic products as much as possible to support both the environment and the economies of our local communities. We use organic fair trade coffee from West Coast Roasters based here in Ucluelet. Local sustainably sourced wild pacific salmon and fresh local prawns are purchased directly from the fishermen. We smoke our own salmon. The antipasto, all of the salad dressings, sauces and dips are freshly prepared in our kitchen. Salads, fruit and vegetables are plentiful and are bought locally whenever possible. Homemade cookies, cakes and desserts are served every day and are baked in Tracy’s kitchen. If you have any special dietary requirements, food intolerances or allergies, please let us know when you make your reservation; we are experienced in adjusting and specializing our menus to accommodate your needs.

Environmental Stewardship and Wildlife Viewing
While kayaking we practice minimum impact camping to reduce our footprint on the areas that we visit. We keep to established tent sites and trails, compost food waste and dispose of garbage responsibly. We follow leave no trace philosophies, store food out of reach of wildlife and minimize campfire impacts. We respect all wildlife that we encounter; knowing that sightings are precious to our guests but always maintaining a respectful distance. We try not to disturb them from their normal behaviour, and abide by all wildlife viewing guidelines. We support the work of local conservation and naturalist groups such as the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, Tofino Shorebird Society, the Central West Coast Forest Society and the Wild Pacific Trail. We regularly get our hands dirty by organising and participating in beach cleaning events in the areas that we visit. We are proud of our role as educators. We enjoy sharing our knowledge of the natural and cultural history of the areas we work in, while teaching our guests about minimum impact philosophies and practices that they can use in their own lives and travels.
Majestic Ocean Kayaking has been leading tours on the west coast of Vancouver Island since 1993. Our kayak guides are equipped with, trained, and practiced in, the use of a variety of safety equipment and procedures. We have an outstanding clear safety record and are continually working with industry associations toward higher levels of safety, service, and standards that are beneficial to our guests, our staff and our community. We hold the required permits, and respect the guidelines for operation set out by Parks Canada and BC Parks. Our guides are all experienced kayakers, highly qualified, and certified to the required standards with the Sea Kayak Guides Alliance of British Columbia. They are all experienced outdoors people, leading and participating in their own trips and adventures in the off season. They know the best areas to paddle but also the tricks of our weather. All of our guests will be given a demonstration of our equipment, a lesson on basic paddling strokes and skills, and an explanation of safety procedures. We provide our guests with all of the necessary equipment to outfit a kayak safely including a lifejacket, sprayskirt and pump. Your guide will lead the tour and is in charge of safety at all times. We travel as a group and always stay close together; any guests having difficulty paddling will receive extra assistance from the guide. Our guides are experienced at leading their tours to suit both novice and experienced paddlers alike so that everyone will enjoy their tour.
We support and care for our local communities. We use local tradespeople, purchase locally and hire local staff were possible. We support and participate in many community events such as the annual Pacific Rim Whale Festival, Tofino Shorebird Festival, Ukee Days and the Edge 2 Edge Marathon. We support our local school and youth groups with donations of kayaking tours for fundraisers, or reduced rates for school kayaking trips. We support our local seniors with regular community events and celebrations. We work with other local businesses to ensure that the money generated by the stay of our guests' benefits the local community. We partner and have agreements with our local First Nations communities as we travel in their traditional territory, and we participate in educational sessions to coninually learn more about their unique history and culture.
The experience and enjoyment of our guests is our primary concern and we pride ourselves on supplying you with the very best equipment for your kayaking vacation. We use excellent quality and perfectly maintained single and double fibreglass kayaks from Nimbus, Seaward, Current Designs and Necky. Our wide range of kayaks means that you can be sure to have a kayak for your tour that fits you correctly, and to be able to try a variety of kayaks while on your trip. We use Aquabound lightweight carbonfibre paddles; Kokatat paddle jackets, Salus PFD's, Brooks and NRS wetsuits, REI Taj 3 person tents and Seal Line dry bags. We supply all the other camping and kitchen equipment for the tour so that all you need to bring is your sleeping bag, sleeping pad and other personal items as suggested in our 'What to pack' list.
